The world makes a mark again on 8th March 2009. It is a day of celebration for all women worldwide. Yes, it is the International Women’s Day which is so called the major day to celebrate on a global scale on the economic, political and social achievements of all women.
The first International Women’s Day was on the 19th March in the year 1911 (and not on the 8th March as being celebrated now) and it all started due to a string of events that involved political aspects. To be exact, it relates back to the issue of the women’s voting rights. The International Women Day too is renowned as the first of spring holiday since there a big number of countries in the world considered the first day of spring season on the early days of March. It was later in 1913 that the International Women’s Day was transferred to 8 March every year and it has remained as the global date for the celebration up until now. In 1975, International Women’s Day was given official recognition by United Nations and is being taken up by many governments as a national holiday ever since. The countries include China, Belarus, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Ukraine, Vietnam and a few more countries.
Much alike Mother’s Day or Valentines Day, Women’s Day is somewhat also similar to celebration day that has political and human rights theme too. It is a holiday with a lot of mixture but has is huge on women’s issues. It is seen as celebration in honor of women’s revolution.
Many of us may not even know that this kind of day ever existed. It is a day to celebrate women as a whole and acknowledging their capabilities, abilities, passion and sacrifices. Women should never be discriminated and looked down because they can even make wonders, probably just like any man can. Famous women in history have proven that way before our era. Being a women is never a disgrace, it is a gift! It is great to be a woman.
